Mickey Mantle is another Oklahoma sports treasure. He was born in Spavinaw, OK and attended school in Commerce, OK before becoming a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Mickey played in 12 World Series during his 18 year career with the Yankees and he led them to seven World Championships. Mickey still holds the record for most World Series home runs with 18 as well as several other World Series records. Today, he is still considered as the greatest switch hitter of all time. This statue of Mickey Mantle is located in front of Bricktown Ballpark in the Bricktown district of Oklahoma City.

Hoyt E. Walkup - Stillwater, OK Airport

The Stillwater Regional Airport is dedicated to the memory of Hoyt E. Walkup. Hoyt was a native of Hollis, OK and came to Searcy Field now known as Stillwater Municipal Airport in 1947. He had just completed four years as an air force pilot and was employed by Oklahoma State University as a flight instructor and charter pilot. He would continue to derive in the air force reserves for 16 years. As the founder of the Oklahoma State University Flying Aggies, one of the nation’s top collegiate flight teams, his enthusiasm for aviation influenced the lives of many you aviators.
